My attention (as a conductor) was drawn to Antony Beaumont's recordings of several of Zemlinsky's music--largely unknown in America. This painstakingly researched and documented book is valuable far beyond providing biographical details on a life whose traces were obliterated by the developments around WWII: Beaumont also offers a wealth of astute analytical observations to many of Zemlinsky's works.
