The Fighter
Copywrited 1960 by Bantam books, the back cover of the 1st edition states, "Peter Dawson is famous for his fast, bullet paced, completely authentic novels of the old west. Yancey is one of his greatest." That "hype" is just that, hype. Yancey is not one of his greatest novels; far from it. Is is readable, but I have trouble with it as it seems to me a different writer has composed this work. The prose just doesn't seem like his earlier style. And by 1960 Peter Dawson had been dead for three years. Yes, it is possible this could have been something written very early in his career, or a rough draft which an editor polished and finished, and back then no publisher would let the buyer know that. So, I can only give it an okay, as to rating.
