After reading a fascinating short chapter 'Decoding the Images: Illustration and Picture Books' by Perry Nodelman, in 'Understanding Children's Literature' edited by Peter Hunt, I was so impressed, I had to acquire a copy of 'Words about Pictures' and learn more. It has not disappointed me. With decisive commentry and lots of reference to the opinions of others, Nodelman unpicks the psychological reading appeal of pictures in a book.
