I have used to good advantage the Van Buren manuscripts in the Congressional Library, though I have not been able by any means to give this material the attention it deserves. I have also had access to some smaller but still very valuable collections of Seward manu scripts, especially those of his letters to Thurlow Weed and to Mrs. George Schuyler, to Whom he wrote very freely on political matters.
