Seller's Description:
Like New. Size: 8x6x0; Wild Thing is a latent spirit that lures the author into the mountain backcountry of Idaho. Over the next forty-five years he rides some 8, 000 miles by horse and mule, paddles 4, 000 miles of whitewater, and snowshoes and skis 2, 500 miles in pristine wilderness. Join him on adventures and humorous mishaps as he runs wild rivers, hunts big game, and challenges an Idaho governor. Learn how to handle rattlesnakes, survive overnight in the mountains at ten below zero, make dandelion wine, stock fish from an airplane, and construct a camp latrine with a heated seat. Discover the mystery of floating rocks and the utility of moonshine whiskey. Enjoy recipes for beer pancakes and elk jerky. And experience the peculiar embarrassment of frying the state record trout for breakfast. Gebhards worked for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game for 37 years. where he was Chief of Fisheries and a Regional Supervisor. He worked on many hot button topics such as stream channelization, stream protection and clean water, which almost got him fired by Governor Samuelson in the early 1970's. Taking what he learned as a commercial fisherman, he prepared a net repair manual that would find worldwide distribution. He also developed a method to transport juvenile fish to high mountain lakes that is still in use today. He was recognized for his work with several state and national awards including Life Time Achievement awards from IDFG and the American Fisheries Society. He and his hunting partner, Wes Rose spent over 20 years hunting in the Upper Selway River in search of elk and deer.
