Having been released at last, Bill's plan is to head home to East London, reconnect with his family, and then relocate to Scotland, but things change when he discovers his wife has run off with her boyfriend and left their two sons to fend for themselves. Bill is a stranger to eleven-year-old Jimmy (Sammy Williams), while fifteen-year-old Dean (Will Poulter), who has been working odd jobs at construction sites to put food on the table, bitterly hates his father for abandoning the family when he was put behind bars.
