Illustrated end pages. Boards with moderate wear and soiling; end pages soiled with previous owner's signatures inside; pages dusty with soiling to the edges and light age toning. Olive Higgins Prouty (1882-1974) was an American novelist and poet, best known for her consideration of psychotherapy in her novels. White Fawn published in 1931 was the first title in her five books about the fictional Vale family belonging to the elite social world of Boston in the early 1900s. She is also known for her philanthropic works, and for her resulting association with the writer Sylvia Plath whom she encountered as a result of endowing a Smith College scholarship for "promising young writers" and for whom she supported financially.
