Ladies are received on a payment of 1 Is. per week, but many prefer going among the ordinary Nurses, who are taken under the following regulations, and not only trained free of expense, but paid for their services. Probationer Nurses.--These are admitted between the ages of twentyfour and thirty-six, and the usual time is for one year. At the end of the first three months each Probationer, if considered eligible, commences salary, and uniform, and is called an Assistant Nurse, but she is not considered fit for any post of much responsibility until she has had a year's training. The scale of salary is as follows: --First year, 14; second year, 16; third and fourth year, 20; fifth and sixth year, 24; seventh year, 26; eighth and ninth year, 28; tenth year, 30. Each Nurse has two print dresses and two best dresses, given her every year; she is also provided with caps, and aprons; and is always expected to wear the dress provided for her, while at the Hospital, or at her work elsewhere. She must also brush her hair back, and not wear it hanging over her forehead. The out-door dress is left to herself to provide, but it must be plain and neat. Board, lodging, medical attendance, and washing are found, and nurses can leave at a month's notice. They must be members of the Church of England, and should apply personally between the hours of ten and twelve a.m. and two and four p.m. to the Sister Superior at the Hospital, Gower Street, London, W.C.
