Dr Paul Moorcraft has covered most of the wars in the last 20 years on four continents. An experienced war correspondent, he shows the other - lighter - side of many of the major conflicts of our time, from Afghanistan to the Balkans, with a unique mix of acute analysis, front-line experience, tragedy and humour. More interested in flying buttresses than flying bullets, the dangers are underplayed as the writer is constantly distracted by bizarre characters, strange places, odd traditions, odder food and his habit of being sucked into eccentric debate with the locals. Told with passion, pace and wit, readers cannot fail to identify with his exploits as he walks to Kabul with holy warriors and a camel who hates him, gets lost on a motorbike with psychopaths in central Mozambique, falls down drunk in a Soweto shebeen, or like everyone else becomes totally frustrated with the politics of Lebanon and the Balkans. An account of personal adventures and the amusing mishaps of war reporting, What the hell am I doing here? combines travel and danger with the sharp observation of a professional journalist. The author's curiosity and sense of fun shine through the fog of battle and, just as often, a bar-room fug.

Seller's Description:
Like New in Fine jacket. Size: 9x6x1; For Moorcraft, a bad day is when death helicopters strafe the village while he cowers in a valley latrine. Moorcraft's detailed accounts of war from Africa to the Balkans are engaging and sometimes even humorous. He's not blind to the pleasures of good people and beautiful terrain, but his travel tales are shaped by more serious stuff, like bloodshed, freedom and injustice. Allen Pizzey says it's "a jaundiced-eyed, literate and often sensitive frolic across the newsfronts of two decades." It's also a magnificent book.

I initially really took a liking to the writing style of Paul Moorcraft. He is very well traveled and I enjoy reading about people that travel through places that I have been to before...and war reporting is ALWAYS exciting! So you may ask why did I give this guy the worst review possible??? Because he is a RIP OFF! It should be considered some kind of plagiarism to rip off your own work? THIS SAME DAMN BOOK IS RELEASED THREE TIMES UNDER THREE DIFFERENT NAMES WITH THREE DIFFERENT JACKETS. This to me shows horrible character and I am terribly disappointed. I'd like to think that the author was unaware of it, but we know that is highly unlikely. The other two names are sd
1)Inside the Danger Zone:.Travels to Arresting Places.
2)What the Hell am I doing Here Travels with an occasional war correspondant
3)Guns and Poses-Something blah blah war reporter.
I cant tell you how disappointed I was when the book came in the mail. I opened it up and a look of disappointment came over my face. Only to happen again a week later when the other book showed up. Is that even legal to do? It shouldn't be.Why would you rip people off, when you are such a talented writer?
