This novel of historical Christian fiction is a dual timeline, that covers a period of time in World War 2 in Poland, and in the more modern times of 2023 Pennsylvania.
In 1942, Poland the story follows the lives of several college professors, and the question is posed, "What would you be willing to do for a friend?" Helena decides along with her good friend Jerzy that they will risk their lives for their mutual good friend Risa, who is deathly ill. Risa has something for Helena.
In 2023 Pennsylvania, McKenna and her roommate and best friend Taylor decide to do some digging into their genealogy and figure out where each of them has come from. McKenna has had some disturbing events at her job, where she is a social worker. She wants to do her very best for every single one of the children in her care, but sometimes, even that isn't enough.
I like how the story evolves you get to experience a bit of Helena's and McKenna's lives. You will find out what exactly was left behind, by Helena.
