This manuscript saw print only because of the notoriety of the author and subject. Apparently many people who witnessed the Big Sur scene found verisimilitude in the author's accounts but to me she lacked the gift for conveying the tone of an era, talked about herself too much, and could not make reputedly good conversation come alive in the mind of the reader.
