First Edition, First Printing; dj in mylar (price unclipped); Illustrated with black & white photographs, and 4 scratchboard drawings (look like woodcuts) by Harold A. Wieland. Signed by author on title page. Two small red lines on bottom edge; "Dup" written in pencil on upper front corner of dust jacket (hardly visible, & probably eraseable); DJ slightly rubbed, just a bit scuffed at edges. The Wieland brothers left Germany in the 1850's and came to the north shore of Lake Superior, where they founded the town of Beaver Bay, Minn., acquired pinelands and operated sawmills, and had lumber yards in Duluth and in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay), Ontario. One of the Wieland brothers discovered iron in northern Minnesota, which led to taconite mining on the Mesabi iron range. 69 clean, unmarked pages; . Illustrated endpapers (maps of Lake Superior).
