In 31 meditations, de Mello implores his readers with his usual pithiness to break through illusion, the great obstacle to love. "The most painful act", de Mello says, "is the act of seeing. But in that act of seeing, love is born".

This is a great book, fast read, which is about much more than love. It is about how to stay positive in life. I lent out my last copy and never got it back. Had to have another one. It came quickly and in great condition.

Ultimate life pursuit
This book is the greatest challenge to my soul that I have read yet! So profound and powerful! I have given many away to deep thinkers and to those who are ready to pursue the challenge. Ancient wisdom from the deepest perspective. It sets the soul reeling.

My favorite book!
This book was loaned to me by a friend who was dealing with anger issues. By the title (and his situation) I thought it was going to be some sort of self-help book, and honestly, I wasn't that interested in reading it. When I started reading, I was TRYiNG not to like it... the way you do when you are protective of people and parinoid that they might be reading something that would lead them in a bad direction... Well, the more I read, the more I realized that I was completely in love (bad pun, I know) with this book! It has actually become my favorite book and I have bought many copies for loved ones. I've probably given away a dozen copies to friends. It's so small that I actually carry a copy of it with me at most times. Sounds a little crazy, but I find myself in conversations where it is relevant all of the time. Yah, so I would definitely read this book. ;) One cool thing about it is that it was written by a Catholic priest who lived in India for a number of years, and his philosophy is Christian, but it makes a lot of ties between eastern and western thought. As a Protestant, I didn't find anything in this book that went against my own beliefs, but I also have given it to friends who are not Christian at all----and have gotten positive responses from them. One non-Christian friend of mine even passed it along to another friend of hers because she was moved so much by what it had to say. So, although it is written from a Christian point of view, it is not a book that will be offensive or awkward for a non-Christian to read. I've even given copies of it to people who used to be Christians but are pretty anti-Christian at this point, and they had peace with it. So... yah.. it's good :)
