N order to preserve the continuity of our tour, we must now ask our readers to accompany us on a trip along those portions of the seaboard of Carnarvonshire which we have not yet visited, and from which we shall start on two other excursions into Snowdonia. Taking our seats in the railway carriage at Bangor station, we are quickly carried along the shore of the Menai Straits. We pass Port Dinorwic. a rapidly increasing little seaport, near which is Moel-y-don, one of the safest ferries over the Menai, and the scene of a victory by Llewellyn over Edward I. in 1282; and we soon reach--Carnarvon. The extent and importance of this town, its magnificent castle, its numerous antiquarian and historical associations, and the convenience of its situation, within a short distance from some of the grandest scenery of North Wales, entitle it to much attention from the tourist. It is built on the northeast side of the Menai Straits, at the mouth of the river Seoint. The annals of the city date back from pre-historic times. To the ancient Britons, it was known as Caer Seoint, the chief town of the tribe of the Segontiaci--so powerful that the reception of an embassage from them was deemed by Caesar worthy of notice.
