Walter is a rattis norvegicus, his latin name of course, which he knows because he discovered at a very early age that he could read! How perfect then that he takes up residence in the home of an author who writes children's books. The only problem is Walter is shy and the lady author appears to be not the friendliest sort. It takes a great deal of courage for Walter to write her a note informing her "I live here too". He is delighted to discover that she responds with a note stating..."I know." This is the beginning of an unusual friendship. Even though this is a children's book, I was delighted to see my 21 and 18 year old children pick up, read and enjoy Walter, silent smiles spreading across their faces as they read. It is hard not to fall in love with the sensitive, intellegent little rat. A quiet little book that has become a family favorite.
