When Peter Wyden wrote his book "Wall: The Inside Story of Divided Berlin", his timing couldn't have been worse. After its' release, the Berlin Wall came doen in the fall of November 1989. His book preceded the fall by months. Making it suddenly obsolete. His retelling of the rise only covers the events leading up to 1989. He could hardly foretell the dramatic events that transpired shortly after publication. Be that as it may,' Wall" offers the reader much valuable information. Using countless resources, Wyden takes you on a detailed chronology of events, from both sides of divided Berlin. Indepth analysis of how the East German Politboro hid their plans. Also, the psyche of the American point of view. At 13 Chapters and 689 pages, plus bibliographies and a numerous list of sources, "Wall" will take you on a journey of the bizarre and twisted view of the East German Socialists and the multiple influences of the "Wall." In my opinion, this book really strikes the chord and soul, of the struggle to be free, and the high cost of trying.
