I was surprised and then pleased to find that WAKE is the first of a planned trilogy with WATCH due in 2010 and WONDER in 2011. My only regret is having to wait for the sequels!
The idea of a self-aware computer is not new (read the superb Robert A. Heinlein novel THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS) but Sawyer takes it to a whole new level: The World Wide Web reaches the necessary size to become self-aware.
In my opinion Robert Sawyer is Canada's greatest living writer. He never disappoints. Go to any new or used bookstore and pick up any book with his name on it. Get WAKE while you're at it. You'll be glad you did.
