German Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen Speak
Voices From Hitler's Army is an excellent documentary portraying the many aspects of the German military during World War II. German war veterans speak about their personal experiences of living in Germany before and during World War II and provide first-hand accounts of their experiences in battle on land, in the air, and at sea. Each documentary is about fifty minutes long. The following is a list of abbreviated titles for each program: Blitzkrieg, The Luftwaffe, The Waffen SS, U-Boats, Russia, and Defending Berlin. I show the Waffen SS program as a supplement to my lessons on the Holocaust and have found it to be an effective teaching tool. Each documentary is very well-done. I found the episodes on the Russian front and the Battle of Berlin to be especially sobering. If you teach lessons on World War II and want to get students to understand what life was like for German soldiers, sailors, and airmen during World War II you surely want to own this video. Highly recommended.
