The recordings on the present disc, however, are all for strings and continuo, with no soloist involved, so those looking for recordings by Mintz in his more familiar solo violin role won't find one here. Two of the pieces RV 133 (tracks 7-9) and RV 134 (tracks 4-5), generally known as concertos but here referred to as symphonies, may be by someone other than Vivaldi. The sound is just fair, with a muddy string sound, and the performances aren't in a league with the furious percussive approach leaders like Fabio Biondi have brought to Vivaldi's concertos with period instruments. All this said, this is perhaps the most successful disc in Mintz's series, and those who prefer the sound of modern strings...
