Once caries occurs it has to be restored and it has been reported that restoration in mixed dentition with fluoridated has the added benefit of protecting adjacent and contralateral teeth from dental caries due to prolonged fluoride release of fluoridated restorative material. But maximum fluoride release of these restorative materials is in first 24 hours and gradually the fluoride release tapers off. If we could find a way to recharge the fluoride of fluoride-releasing restorative material by something so simple as daily toothbrushing by fluoridated dentifrice we can create a reservoir of fluoride which will not deplete till the time restorations are there in the mouth.
