Vintage Collectibles, Vol. 6: 1958-1967 falls somewhere between the two extremes in the MCA Special Products' budget-line series. Usually, Vintage Collectibles is either devoted to familiar material or skillfully balances favorites with lesser-known tunes and forgotten singles. Vol. 6 walks the admittedly thin line that separates these two tactics, leaning a bit toward the former at times. Surely, the familiar tunes -- the American Breed's "Bend Me, Shape Me," Len Barry's "1-2-3," the Chantays' "Pipeline," Shirley Ellis' interminable "The Name Game," Buddy Holly's "Rave On," Roy Head's "Treat Her Right" -- take the forefront, but there are also a pair of absolutely terrific singles (Tommy Tucker's "Hi-Heel Sneakers" and the Impressions' "Amen") that usually aren't commonly heard on the radio or seen on oldies compilations.
