This book is different from Johnstone's westerns or his Ashes or Code Name series; it is clearly fiction, but is almost believable as a realistic commentary on what is happening with drug smuggling across the Mexican border. Independent but gutsy ex Vietnam vet who doesn't go along with the weak adminstration border policy gets involved with fighting Mexican drug lord when a friend is killed for bucking the system and trying to stop smuggling gang from using his ranch as a 'safe harbor' crossing. He decides to get even on his own, has masterful ex mercenary nemesis who enjoys it as a challenge, and he ends up bringing in his aging Vietnam combat buddies to invade the drug dealer's hacienda across the border. Nice buildup, explosive action before ending, turns it into a good fictional action adventure, but sequence of developments up to that point is nearly believable as realistic. A good read.
