Julien Green (1900-1998) was a French American writer of sombre psychological novels that show a preoccupation with violence and death. Green was the first person of American parentage to be elected to the Academie Francaise (1971). George Boas (1891-1980) was a Professor of Philosophy at John Hopkins University. In WWII, he served as a Commander in the Naval Reserve. Some of his major works include: The Inquiring Mind, The Heaven of Invention (1962), and The History of Ideas (1969).
