Picoult has become a master almost a clairvoyant at targeting hot issues and writing highly readable page-turners about them ...It is impossible not to be held spellbound by the way she forces us to think, hard, about right and wrong.' The Washington Post Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her widowed father Andrew, she now has a young daughter, a handsome fianc , and her own Search and Rescue bloodhound which she uses to find missing persons. But as she plans her wedding, she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can't recall. What are these memories and what do they mean? In shock and confusion, Delia must search out the truth among these newly discovered recollections even when they threaten to devastate her life, and the lives of those she loves most. With consummate skill and sensitivity, Jodi Picoult examines what happens when the past we have been running from catches up to us, and questions who we trust to tell us the story of our lives before we are capable of remembering it ourselves. Good in good dust jacket. Outline: -Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her widowed father Andrew she now has a young daughter a handsome fiancé and her own search-and-rescue bloodhound which she uses to find missing persons. But as Delia plans her wedding she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can`t recall. And then a policeman knocks on her door revealing a secret that changes the world as she knows it. In shock and confusion Delia must sift through the truth--even when it jeopardizes her life and the lives of those she loves. What happens when you learn you are not who you thought you were? When the people you`ve loved and trusted suddenly change before your eyes? When getting your deepest wish means giving up what you`ve always taken for granted? Vanishing Acts explores how life--as we know it--might not turn out the way we imagined; how doing the right thing could mean doing the wrong thing; how the memory we thought had vanished could return as a threat. Once again Jodi Picoult handles a difficult and timely topic with understanding insight and compassion. -> the publisher of this HARDBACK book is BCA The date of this copy is 2005 booksalvation have grade it as Good and it will be shipped from our UK warehouse This book is from the Series. This is the first book I' ve read by Picoult. I liked the fact that she used different voices to illustrate the different choices made by the characters in the story. Each chapter was told from a character's perspective and the typeprint for each was a nice differentiating touch. Initially I was tempted to draw conclusions and make judgements on the characters but as the story progressed I increased my empathy for each of them and their motivations. The suprise twist at the end, I thought was quite cleverly conceived. As someone who works with troubled lives and broken families, Picoult managed to be convincing to me regarding the unheard sides of every misunderstood, misjudged, complex story of our lives that are filled with joys and hidden-ness some of which we'd rather not know.

Great read
I started reading Jodi Picoult books a few years ago when I read "The Pact", since then I've read several otehrs and have not been dissappointed. This included "Vanishing Acts", whch was well written and kept me interested until the very end.
