Cannom, who served as technical advisor to such films as "The High and the Mighty" and "Flipper" and the TV series "Sea Hunt. " The inscription, to Captain E. E. Hahn Jr., USCG, "a fine officer and an outstanding gentleman, " thanks Captain Hahn for his cooperation on the telecast of "Operation Rescue, " saying his "patience and assistance helped to make it the outstanding success it was. " The inscription is dated April 1949. The book looks at the career of W. S. Van Dyke ("Woody"), who got his start with "Birth of a Nation" and later directed the Thin Man movies, "Marie Antoinette, " and "Naughty Marietta, " among many others during the 1930s and '40s. During World War II he served in the Marine Corps with the 22nd Battalion. Book is clean and sturdy. Small, light stain on fore edge text block. Photo illustrations. 424 pp.
