Laid in is a manuscript letter dated 1944 and addressed to Mr. [John Adams] Lowe, signed by Evalyn Katz, his then-fiancee. The letter thanks Lowe for his letter, explains that it might be "a few months" before Shapiro is able to write back. Bookplate of The John Adams Lowe Collection of American Poetry, 1936, Rochester Public Library. Hardcover, grey cloth boards with black and red lettering on front cover and spine, 8-1/2" tall, 63 pp. Karl Shapiro was the 5th Poet Laureate, and this was his Pulitzer Prize-winning volume of poetry. Book is near fine with just light wear; dust jacket has toning to edges and spine panel, a 1/4" deep triangular chip to top edge of front panel, another chip to head of spine panel, original price of $2.00 intact.
