The Uttermost Part of the Earth
This is a wonderful book to read before going to bed! The imagination is fired by the life of a Victorian missionary and his children who grow up hunting, fishing, riding and navigating, in close contact with the local indigenous people in a territory which is far removed from any climate we can conceive of. The distances, the difficulties, the way of life .. all are exotic to our present day conception of civilisation. One almost yearns for that freedom and wilderness .... Beautifully written.
