The Meeting is a quartet which in 1995 consisted of keyboardist Patrice Rushen, Ernie Watts (on tenor and alto), bassist Freddie "Ready Freddie" Washington and drummer Ndugu Chancler. Their music crosses the boundary line between funky jazz and R&B and, except for two throwaway vocals, the Meeting is heard at its best on this Hip Bop CD. Rushen, who should someday record a full album of jazz, is in excellent form as is Watts, making this date a good showcase of the L.A.-based group's talents. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
