For those of us who remember the era that Evelyn Birkby writes about this book is a trip down memory lane during the forties and fifties in Iowa. It's fun to read about some detail of those years and it jogs our memories. A bonus is all the from scratch recipes cooked during that time. Plain dishes that were made from ingredients we had in the cupboards for use on a daily basis or to use when going to a pot luck meal. Life in the country that brings back good memories of family, friendships and fellowship.
