i bought this book after borrowing Cullina's other 2 excellent books from my library. I thought it would be a good reference book for my horticulture shelf. To my surprise i found that i couldnt stop reading it, setting aside my other reading to finish it. I like Cullina's very personal writing style: he writes in simple terms yet doesnt dumb down the science. He makes you understand botany using metaphors of your normal day to day life, i.e. car trouble, kids only wanting sweets, siphoning problems etc: the xylem and the phloem are plumbing pipes. I didnt give it 5 stars because the quality of the photo printing in this book is disappointing compared to his other books and available 21st century technology.
