These legend-making songs were recorded between 1955 and 1967 in San Antonio before norteno music was big anywhere else and feature the title cut ("A Wetback Without A Green Card"), written by Flaco's father Santiago, as well as songs about Vietnam, Hurricane Beulah and truck drivers. The work that has made Flaco famous to us Anglos is his flashy accordion playing (with Ry Cooder et al), yet the plain man performances here are even more engaging. ~ Carl Hoyt, Rovi
