The special issue is dedicated to the gender history of Ukraine from the early modern period to the recent present. It aims at a better perception of the innovative research of Ukrainian colleagues as an integral part of European historiography. In times of war, this seems more important than ever, not only in regard to scientific exchange but also in its relevance for a better understanding of Ukraine in terms of politics of history. Ukraine is the largest country in Europe in terms of area, it is an integral part of a European history of entanglements and transfers, and at the same time still a blank spot on the historiographical map of Western publics. This also applies to the lively research on gender history, which is received too little or only with great delay in the West.
