Great historical overview
This book provides an excellent overview of Greek and Roman civilization; it's not just a dozen biographies strung together. In fact, there are several "extra" biographies placed within the listed dozen. While containing some small stylistic problems, the overall history is entertaining and accurate. If someone wanted a short education in classical Greek and Roman civilization, this would be a good short book to give them, and it's a quick read, too. Good things can come in small packages.
