On a beautiful sunny fall day, Tucker, Ripley, Ben Beaver, and Billy Blue Jay meet to talk about a fall field trip to a new place to explore and learn about. They decide on a visit to Asbury Woods, which is a nature preserve only about four miles from their homes on Presque Isle State Park. Their journey to Asbury Woods is sure to be fun, exciting, and educational for a young child. They will be delighted that they can join Tucker and Ripley and their friends on their travels throughout Asbury Woods. This book is the second in the series of books that features Tucker, a Painted Turtle, and Ripley, a Cottontail Rabbitt who live on Presque Isle State Park. The book takes the two of them plus several other of their Presque Isle animal friends to this unique 205-acre nature preserve. Asbury Woods is quite different from Presque Isle and includes many features such as raised boardwalks, large hills, and meadows, plus many large and small ponds and a large creek. In the book, the child will visit twenty-four of these places, plus meet many of the animals that live within Asbury Woods. In addition, at Asbury, there is the Andrew J. Conner Nature Center, a large building where there are many displays, an indoor Bee colony, and an indoor waterfalls. There are also classrooms, meeting rooms, and a gift shop. This is a book that is ideal for reading to children from 2 to 7 years of age. It contains many lighthearted illustrations and has many special reader's choice educational sections. These sections highlight what is contained on the current page being read, and can include animals, birds, and insects. Within this will also be interesting features and information about Asbury Woods and its special environment. There are also many special hidden highlights, such as an ant sunbathing on a lily pad, and an eagle carrying Tucker's little Red Wagon. This is a book that adults will enjoy reading over and over to children because it is fun and educational to both.
