There are two points to immediately make about this book, one is that it is a study guide and the second is that it invites interaction with what the author phrases as ?questions you had not thought of?, thinking in new ways and identifying issues at hand.
Psalm 23 is a familiar psalm, but for some it has become over-familiar and this study guide reconsiders that familiarity, not by over-analysing phrases and portions, but by pausing and looking at the context in which the praise is written and the sentiments expressed.
This is not an in-depth study of Psalm 23, but it is heartening to have the reader pointed to books on the Shepherd Psalm, which are able to devote a more considered exposition. This is an uplifting book and will be of benefit to those setting out to explore the 23rd Psalm anew. It is set out as a resource to use at a retreat but readers may choose to use it for personal devotions.
I am a bit uneasy about the different Bible versions referred to throughout as I commonly use the KJV, but this takes nothing away from enjoying the way that the author has set out helpful themes for meditation, embraced a wonderful overarching theme of ?trust? in sections such as Trusting God to Lead and Trusting that God is with Me and formatted the sections of the book well to encourage active use. It is a book that groups will enjoy, participants will write in and reinvigorate their interest in the Psalms.
