one of the most engaging books i have ever read, zimmerman's memoir is an insightful backdrop to the 60's and 70's from the view of someone who refused to be a bystander during the civil rights movement, the vietnam war, and the fbi seige at wounded knee in 1973.
i actually learned more about the vietnam war in this book than any other source, zimmerman flew to north vietnam during intense american bombing by b-52's. he helped get medical aid to the north vietnamese, and fought nixon and johnson to end the war at home.
a real page turner from beginning to end, i couldn't get over how zimmerman's analytical mind navigated all the chaos and turbulence from that volatile era. his keen sense of seeing injustice and doing something about it should inspire young idealists for generations to come.
