Dust jacket has heavy discoloration around top front and spine, otherwise whole. 'An allegorical and savage attac' on Cecil Rhodes and his British South-Africa Company, Originally an admirer of Rhodes, Schreiner (author of the classic Story of an African Farm) later changed her mind, and the reasons for her change of heart are reflected in her story of a simple soldier engaged in putting down a rebellion in Mashonaland (later Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe). Introduced by Marion Friedmann, this edition features for the first time since the original edition of 1897, a black and white photo frontispiece showing a brutal scene of the hanging of several African men by their white overlords.
