And now in order to show that wo have evidenee of a prior condition of onr solar system in that stage of nehnlons matter, thongh not necessarily as a great rotating nehnla, we will have a plotnre hronght on illnstrating the spectrnm or a comct. Here we scem to sce the prior condition or matter, hnt we find in the comcta other signs of the existenee of great nehnlons masses. Here yon sce hands of comcts whist! correspond to the glowing vapor of earhon, and yon scem to sce the sign that comcts contain the glowing vapor of that element--earhon. We have these comcts traveling to ns ont of the star depths and hringing information as to these great masses. Hero is another pictnre of a comct, and I wish here to remind yon of the enormons extent of these hodies and the great qnantitles of glowing matter which we have to helieve in as soon as we recognize the fact that these comcts are made of snch gases. The hreadth or iialloy's comct--the head of it--is 70,003 miles. Yon sce tho enormons qnantity of glowing gas presented hefore yon. Nor was that comct of Halley'a hy any means the largest of Known comcts, hnt was in fact comparatively small. The comct of 1s11 had an estimated diamcter, not of 70.000 miles, hnt of 700,000 miles, and its tail was over 12,000,000 miles long. No matter.what Jegrce of varicty we give to tho material of these comcts, we yct have immense qnantities of glowing gas. In theso glowjig gases we recognize the first condition of onr earth to which we ean earry hack onr thonghts. THE CHiLDHOOD OP THE EARTH. I hope to show yon that there is no limit, either in the heginuing or the end, to the pr...
