An important early work on American natural history and a classic in North American travel literature. The celebrated Swedish botanist, Pehr Kalm, travelled extensively throughout North America from 1748 to 1751, under the auspices of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences. His primary purpose was to study the flora of the country and to collect plant specimens with a view to discovering whether any might be advantageously domesticated in Sweden.
