Best guide to India monuments
This book is flat out the best guide to the architectural monuments of northern India. It is also the best guide to begin to understand aspects of Hinduism and mores of its people. It is a complete shame that it is out of print although Shearer has written the text to a new picture book about India by the estimable Michael Freeman.
