It was the intention, at that we, to print the whole of the first volume of the archives of Massachusetts, containing the records of the Company and Colony of Massachusetts Bay, from their beginning to the year 1641. Much anxiety had been expressed on account of the precarious condition of that manuscript, which was rapidly wasting under the wear and tear of frequent examination; and it was believed that no better service could be rendered to the cause of American history than the effort to preserve the contents of that valuable document from the chances of loss or mutilation.
