Like its predecessor, Trance Classics, Vol. 2 rounds up and strings together two CDs' worth of late-'90s/early-2000s trance anthems; however, unlike its predecessor, it's a little short on brand-name inclusions. Whereas the first volume was chock-full of the most well-known anthems of the short-lived progressive trance era (onetime ubiquitous club favorites like "Sandstorm," "Café del Mar," "9PM [Till I Come]," "For an Angel," "Zombie Nation," "Beachball," "Saltwater," and "1998"), this second volume is a little spotty, stringing together clear-cut classics ("Madagascar," "Ubik [The Dance]," and "Heaven Scent") with a lot of more questionable inclusions. You'd be much better off with the first volume, but chances are that if you liked that one, you'll like this one nearly as much. And besides, it's nice that Moonshine rounded up all these tracks into an economical series of CDs in the first place, particularly since it's quite rare to hear them played out in the clubs any longer. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
