This book complets Dom Regis's rein of paranoia and begins Mikhail rein of power. Mikhail and Marguerida give a glimpse if what their combined matrices can do when provoked by the current ambitiuos ( and corrupt to boot!) Station Cheif of the Federation headquarters, Lyle Belafontaine. The Terrans learn that Darkover is not as backward and helpless as the Federation had assumed when they made them a Protected Plant! The continued arguements of the wonderful Comyn Council, arguing over rulers, domain rights, inheritances and for one brief shining moment there is silence and (almost) a single-handed agreement on something!! All this while getting a glimpse at what the Travelers are truely made from and where they come from. This is a great novel to read for those interested in what happended to Mikhail and Marguerida and to give a glimpse into the beginning of Mikhails rein while watching his heir prove that he has talents no one else has seen.
New characters with new laran gifts emmerge from the wildest of places and new loves sprout young while others are made by the traditional means of the older generation. This is a great book and I reccomend it for anyone who has read The Shadow Matrix as it continues the journey onward!!
