There are wild stories of the early days of officiating, interviews with high-profile referees from the fifties and sixties, and a chapter devoted to linesmen, including three who have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Dick looks at hockey officiating in its period of greatest upheaval, when the league more than doubled in size from six teams in the sixties to a dozen and more by the early seventies. Among the active referees interviewed are: Kerry Fraser, Terry Gregson (who talks about his role as head of the official's association during their strike in 1993), Don Koharski, and Paul Stewart.
