MIGHT JUST CHEER YOU UP
This book has been compared to Robert Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, but a better comparison might be Betty MacDonald's The Egg and I. Coming out in October of 1945, it was not just a classic bestselling memoir about chicken ranching on the Olympic Peninsula during the Twenties, but it sang of humanity, comedy, endurance, wisdom, foolishness, and tolerance. Perfectly timed. Her book uplifted countless hearts, made them feel safe to laugh again, and took readers back to a gentler era within a setting of pristine beauty. Maybe these current weird times are hard enough on the collective American psyche that reading this little out-of-print book might do the same trick, soothe some worried hearts in perilous times.
