Good. Large octavo, 500pp., illustrated. Presumed reprint, with "Blue Ribbon Special" stamped at the base of the spine. A good copy in the publihser's green cloth, lacking the dust jacket. Spine faded, corners gently bumped, and some light offsetting from the plates internally (as often). Lacking the dust jacket. This copy SIGNED and warmly INSCRIBED by Pinchot on the verso of the frontispiece: "To Miss Marian Belshaw with the admiration, respect, and very best wishes of her grateful patient. Gifford Pinchot May, 1939." We were unable to identify Belshaw, but nevertheless have not found a similarly lengthy inscription on this title in commerce.

PRESENTATION EDITION with a special leaf added between the flyleaf and frontispiece which has the printed sentiment "With the regards and best wishes of the author" with his handwritten ink signature below and the number "100" stamped above, possibly indicating this is copy #100 of an unspecified limitation. The paper has normal toning and the pictorial cloth shows some mild edge wear and corner bumps. 500 pages illustrated with blue-tone photos and a color frontispiece. No dust jacket.
