I've read most of Robinson's books, and I think his earlier ones are better. They were more submarine technothrillers. The last few were more about land-based operations and politics. This book follows the villain introduced in Scimitar SL-2 and re-introduced in Barracuda 945. Those two books were excellent. In this book, the villain is obsessed with attempting to assassinate Admiral Arnold Morgan. I can't speak for most of his research, and I understand that it is fictional, but I laughed at two things: The first was about a Canadian connection to terrorism. They made a fictional airline, Thunder Bay Airlines, which is supposedly owned by Saudi's, and whose purpose is to bring vacationers to the ski resorts in Thunder Bay. As far as I can remember, there's only one ski hill there, generously called Mound MacKay, but Thunder Bay isn't known for resorts of any kind. This airline also apparently flies out of Downsview Airport, which was a former army base, and I'm sure wouldn't have a long enough runway. Anyway, the Americans shoot this plane out of the sky and hardly blink at the loss of life, since there were no Americans aboard. The other was that this Middle Eastern terrorist chose to pass himself off as a Finnish businessman. He should have chosen to be something easier, like a Swede or Russian, because even I have trouble doing a Finnish accent because it's so unique. He also put on a blond wig. Later it said he decided to shave off his dark beard. Did he really wear a blond wig with a dark beard? Great disguise! I finished it, and it was okay, but not the kind of book you can't put down. I also find that Robinson has all his characters curse like sailors (no offence to sailors): Christian, Muslim, Jew, male or female, all curse Christ. It's quite offensive, actually, and another reason I probably won't bother with any more of his books.
