To describe the Bluerunners merely as a Louisiana band is to do them a slight disservice. While there are certainly elements of every aspect of that state's rich musical tradition in the Bluerunners' sound, there's also an odd texture at work here. That's due first of all to their odd instrumentation, which at any moment can combine various traditional acoustic instruments with electric guitars and saxophones. Secondly, they take all of these basic Louisiana musical elements (Cajun, zydeco and R&B) and integrate them with further elements of country-rock, proto-funk and rock & roll. The results keep changing the texture of this band on an almost track-by-track basis with a strong, danceable beat as the thread that holds it all together. Highlights include "Au Bout Du Chemin," "Landslide," "Curb Service," "Doorway," "Au Bord Du Bayou" and "Ossun Two Step." Traditional roots heading in a new direction. ~ Cub Koda, Rovi
