Lawyer Atticus Finch gives this advice to his children as he defends the real mockingbird of Harper Lee's classic novel - a black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina of one man's struggle for justice. But the weight of history will only tolerate so much... A benchmark of classic American literature, To Kill A Mockingbird approaches the highly sensitive topic of racism in 1930s America with humour, warmth and compassion, making it widely recognised as one of the best books of the twentieth century and in American literature.

and accurate portrayal of a bygone(???) era in human history albeit noted as"fiction".Draws the reader right in to the sad injustices of an imperfect society.
Excellent "story" indeed that causes one to THINK.

Beautiful Copy of a Classic--Stick with Alibris
I wanted to gift my wife a 50 th Anniversary reissue of To Kill a Mockingbird . I usually use Alibris but for convenience ---I elected to buy a copy from another online vendor described as in"very good" condition and pictured with a dustcover. Book arrived in horrible shape--no dustcover, multiple underlined passages and dog-eared pages and pages from another book stuffed into the book. Took several weeks to get a refund--even then there were out of pocket costs for mailing it back. Purchased this perfect "brand new" copy from Alibis -arrived in pristine condition.
Though I have used Alibris for this type of purchase about 95% of the time now it is 100%.
