These living histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Landmark Book #42. To California By Covered Wagon starting in the Spring of 1844 is the story of eleven covered wagons headed westward from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Some fifty men, women and children with their dogs and cats and a herd of almost 100 cattle made up the caravan that plodded slowly toward California. From the original notes of a seventeen year old on that trip, we get the remarkable story of the journey. Non-Library book that has come from a private collection.
